2025 Christmas Project

Meet Sanimpo

Farming has always been central to Janet’s life, yet she faced constant challenges. Unpredictable weather patterns, poor seed quality, and limited access to timely tractor services often impacted her yields. Balancing her roles as a farmer and a mother brought unique challenges; early mornings preparing her children for school left little time for the fields, and tending to her crops was often squeezed in between her responsibilities at home.

Her journey took a new turn when Regina, a Field Support Agent, introduced her to the SEED Program supported by Opportunity International and Sinapi Aba, it’s local partner in Ghana. Through the program, Janet received essential training, a microloan, and support, which transformed her farm into a thriving business. With each planting season, she learned how to prepare her land, test seed germination, and use agronomic practices to boost her yield. Today, her fields span 1.5 acres, and she proudly produces five to six 100-kilogram bags of groundnuts and four bags of maize, which she sells at the local market to help sustain her family.

Where she once farmed only to feed her family, Janet’s business now provides reliable income for essentials like school fees, health expenses, and even support for extended family. This transformation has brought hope and motivation to her work, and her success is inspiring others in her community to adopt similar practices.

Janet’s ambition doesn’t stop at her fields; she dreams of opening a shop in Champa in the coming years, creating new opportunities for her family and her village.

As she looks to the future, Janet hopes her children will one day travel, gain experiences outside of Ghana, and return to bring new ideas and prosperity back home. Through Opportunity’s training and resources, Janet has gained the skills and confidence to grow a better future—both for her family and for her community.

Meet Janet

In the northern village of Chamba, Ghana, Janet balances her life as a smallholder farmer and mother with determination and resilience. Married for ten years, Janet is also the proud mother of three young children—a 10-year-old son, a four-year-old daughter, and a 6-month-old baby girl. As a mother, she feels the constant weight of responsibility, from managing expenses to providing for her children’s education, clothing, and health needs.
